The Challenge
The ad tech company’s RTB platform needed to evaluate and respond to 1M+ bid requests per second, each within 10ms. The platform’s ML models needed to predict ad performance and optimize bidding strategies in real-time while ensuring brand safety and fraud prevention.
Our Solution
We developed a comprehensive testing program for the RTB platform including latency profiling at 1M+ RPS, bid algorithm accuracy and optimization testing, brand safety rule validation, and ad fraud detection testing against known fraud patterns.
Programmatic advertising operates at a scale and speed that pushes technology to its limits. A real-time bidding platform must evaluate complex signals and make decisions in milliseconds, millions of times per second.
Performance testing at this scale required custom tooling. Off-the-shelf load testing tools couldn’t generate realistic bid requests at the required volume. We built a distributed bid request generator that simulated realistic traffic patterns from multiple exchanges.
ML model testing validated that bid optimization was actually improving advertiser outcomes, not just winning auctions. We used historical campaign data to backtest bidding strategies and measure real ROI impact.
Brand safety and fraud detection testing used adversarial approaches — we generated synthetic ad placements with known brand safety violations and fraud patterns to validate the detection systems’ effectiveness.
