The Challenge
The company was piloting autonomous drone delivery in 3 metropolitan areas. The system needed to navigate complex urban environments, handle weather disruptions, comply with FAA regulations, and integrate with existing warehouse and order management systems.
Our Solution
We tested the drone delivery platform including flight path planning and obstacle avoidance, weather impact on delivery reliability, FAA Part 135 compliance validation, and integration with warehouse management and order tracking systems.
Autonomous drone delivery represents the future of last-mile logistics, but getting there requires solving complex challenges in navigation, safety, regulation, and customer experience.
Flight path testing used both simulation and physical test flights. We validated obstacle avoidance in complex urban environments including buildings, power lines, trees, and moving objects like birds and other aircraft.
Weather testing was critical for reliability. We tested operations under various wind conditions, rain, fog, and temperature extremes, establishing clear operating parameters and automated grounding decisions.
FAA compliance testing covered all Part 135 requirements including beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations, detect-and-avoid systems, and communication link reliability.
